One-day tour –
A typical day starts from the pick-up point of your choice, Edinburgh, Stirling or Glasgow we then travel North/West, stopping at the famous Stirling-Castle, which dates back to the 11th century and was once favoured by many Scottish Kings and Queens, including Mary Queen of Scots who was crowned here in 1542. Castle Hill on which the castle sits, forms part of Stirling Sill, a formation of quartz-dolerite, around 350 million years old. At this point we stop for a panoramic photographic opportunity from its raised position, then on towards the East edge of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs enjoying some fantastic stunning scenery along the way. For those of you who are fans of “Outlander”, we have the opportunity to stop past, Doune Castle, which was used for filming the pilot episode of Winterfell. Along the way we will stop-off to visit some “Highland Coo`s”. These friendly well photographed animals, date back to the 18th Century.
We then make our way towards one of Europe`s last remaining Wildernesses, Rannoch Moor. Turning the corner you will then be met by the famous Glencoe, scene of the historic massacre of 1692, where men, women and children of the Clan Macdonald were brutally murdered by the Campbells. This event being still talked about over 300 years later. Along the way we will stop off at the outstanding, “Three Sisters”, named after the three distinctive ridges of Bidean Nam Bian Mountain.
Glencoe is also famous for its many movies including, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the opening scenes of Outlander and James Bond`s Skyfall to name but a few.
We will visit Glencoe Visitor Centre set within Glencoe National Nature Reserve. Here you can admire the stunning scenery encapsulated by a number of Munro Mountains that tower above the Glen. Admire the fascinating reconstruction of a 300 year old, Turf and Creel house.
We will stop off for lunch at the Ben Nevis Inn where you will not only enjoy a stunning location at the foot of Ben Nevis, and the United Kingdoms highest mountain, but get a chance to enjoy some authentic Scottish food, like “Cullen Skink” or “Haggis neeps and tatties”, a rare treat indeed.
For those of you who enjoy a wee dram, there will also be the opportunity to visit Ben-Nevis Whisky Distillery, one of Scotland`s oldest Distilleries, founded in 1825. This friendly small Distillery on the outskirt of Fort-William is well worth a visit.
On our journey back we will travel East along the banks of the River Spean and Loch laggan towards Dalwhinnie, where you will enjoy some outstanding scenery, bordering Cairngorm National Park, with the opportunity to travel through the lovely small town of Pitlochry, before travelling south back to your chosen accommodation.
